SERVING FOR TSUNAMI RELIEF
JANUARY 31, 2005 - HOUSTON, TX
TENNIS CHARITY EVENT TO SUPPORT BUSH-CLINTON TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND
It was the perfect match - stargazing and fundraising for victims of the Asian tsunami. Andy Roddick, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Anna Kournikova and Tommy Haas lent their considerable tennis talents to the effort. They were joined by relationships expert Dr. Phil McGraw and by former Houston Rocket Clyde "The Glide" Drexler who took a turn in celebrity doubles.
A raucous crowd of 8,193 reveled the action and the antics of the players. Andy had the crowd in stitches with an impromptu song and dance routine designed expressly for Anna. Kournikova seemed unimpressed as she and McEnroe bested Roddick and Evert in the final match.
The real winner at the end of the evening was the Bush-Clinton Relief Fund. One hundred percent of the proceeds went directly to the aid effort, and a check for $518,932 was presented to former President George Bush.
